Hello Ashland, this is your wake up call. For anyone who doesn't know, Ott is seriously a WIZARD of a producer of some the finest electronic music out there. Lush, soulful, melodic, this is not your daddy's four on the floor duff duff. It is a huge treat to have him come.

That being said, please spread the word. Stillwater is working hard to bring top notch acts to our town, and it is vital that we support their efforts if we would like to see it continue. If you can't make it, then get someone else to go. They won't be dissaponted.

a description I found:

"The most fantastic modern dub from West Country reclusive genius Ott, whose album really is over the top in quality, depth and shinning brilliance. Spacey strings, chants, otherworldly noises and pertinent samples collide with his massive rub a dub beats and bass. Otts music is a world to its own, a pure undiluted atmospheric world of swirling stoned sound and colour. Indian to Arabic to African Otts, dubs are boundaryless and boundless in their, scope and strength. Otts music is a paradox of dub, not stereotypically slow heavy sounds but at once an upbeat dancey dub full of light, world chants and funky beats, while still maintaining a slow and relaxed ambient groove. Following on from his Hallucinogen In Dub album (TWSCD16) for Twisted Records this solo album is a selection of clean hard grooves and the best dub studio skills, echo, delay, phasing, instruments popping up out of the murk and then submerging again, skills of which Ott is a particular maestro. Ott is no stranger to the studio, he has for the last 20 years been producing arranging and recording some of the most famous artists including Sinead O'Connor, The Orb, and Brian Eno. He continues to work with many famous artists and along his travels has met up with master producer Simon Posford aka Hallucinogen, editing Shpongle. After hearing his studio skills Simon commissioned him to make this modern dub album as an antithesis to his own hurtling trance music. The results are as you shall see are startling, a stunning example of modern dub and one that is massive with all dance music and ambient music fans across the globe."

see you there!

I have a mini-van with "some" space available for additional gear, though not sure how much as I don't pack light. If you are looking for a ride to the Burn on Sunday (returning late Monday afternoon on Labor Day) and you'd like to rideshare I have space for a passenger. Some gas money would be great. I don't need a lot. I'm really just looking to connect and have a companion for the ride there (and/or there and back). I do have a bike rack, so there is room for (1) bike to transport as well.
3-Day Experiential Workshop
June 27 - 29, 2008
Talent, Oregon

In the Flower of Life workshop we introduce the Right Eye of Horus Mystery School Teachings of sacred geometry (as presented originally by Drunvalo Melchizedek) and combine them with a powerful breath and meditation technique called the MerKaBa Meditation. The combination of the sacred geometry teachings and the meditation create a doorway through which the student may travel beyond time and space to the unified living field of which we are all a part -- the living energy of all creation. As students become more adept in this practice, their lives change profoundly as their eyes open to the unlimited potential of the human spirit!

*Sacred Geometry
*The MerKaBa Meditation and The Unity Breath
*Connecting with Higher Self and Opening the Heart
The Emrg+N+See Festival is one of the only Oregon-based, three-day events dedicated to showcasing: emerging underground electronic music acts and producers from a broad scope of genres, digital & traditional media art, performance, and independently created fashion & products.

Emrg+N+See was born to serve. Conceived in a small café once upon a time in Ashland Oregon, a small band of creatives set out to produce events that brought together emerging artists alongside current topics of social and environmental awareness. That seed was planted in January 2004 and has grown through the years into the festival we know of today - an arena of artist appreciation and integration into popular culture and commerce.

From west coast to east, from Inner being to outer space – it doesn’t matter which – people with skills, musicians with passion, artists with vision – all come to collect themselves under the banner of Emrg+N+See!

Prelude to Burning Man
'An Evening in Candy Land' is a local party for adherents of Nevada's Burning Man festival
By By JENNIFER STRANGE
for the Mail Tribune
February 28, 2008 6:00 AM
With six months to go until Burning Man, local enthusiasts have devised a way to stoke the inner fires of creativity early — and introduce newbies to the concept.

Called "An Evening in Candy Land," it's a neon lollipop-inspired costume party, rave and "informational" set for 9 p.m. Saturday at The Black Sheep in Ashland. It's sponsored by the Siskiyou Burners, a group of about 150 local residents who attend Burning Man, a weeklong, commerce-free, performance art festival that takes place in Nevada's Black Rock Desert (known as "the playa") every summer. This year's festival is set for Aug. 25 through Sept. 1.

"This is a Burning Man-orientated group that likes to hold Burning Man parties and welcome people into the community," says Black Sheep owner and six-time "Burner" Susan Chester. "For those who haven't gone, it's an introduction, and for those who have, it's a fun halfway point until this summer."

Saucy "Hot Candy Dancers," aerial silk performers, two renowned deejays, crazy rave décor, door prizes and gifts for all are just some of the enticements.

"It's always our goal to do something nobody else has done in Ashland," says organizer Greg Goebelt of Talent, who coordinated the Siskiyou Burners' Freak and Fetish Balls and Fur Balls.

"I travel around and when I see something really provocative, I want to bring it to our small town and blow everything away."

Goebelt and his wife, Ann Goebelt, have been to Burning Man eight times and are the festival's Southern Oregon regional contacts. Like many Burners, they prefer to use their playa names (Squeeze and Tickle, respectively) when involved in Burning Man-related events.

"An Evening in Candy Land" was inspired by a mix of early '90s rave fashion, sexual overtones and a swirly, neon brightness.

"Then we wondered what it would look like if we were all shrunk down to the size of candy," Greg Goebelt says. "So then we got the whole idea "¦ it's truly a candy rave with giant candy, cotton candy colors and black lights."

Volunteer and three-time Burner Michael Kerr of Ashland has been transforming cardboard boxes into 5-foot lollipops, barrel-sized gumdrops and a crawl-through gingerbread house with a fur-lined interior and black-light illumination.

Most of the materials were scavenged from recycling centers and willing storekeepers, says Kerr, whose playa name is Magic. Special equipment — like the black lights and tents that create a "chill space" at the back of the gingerbread house and the vast white sheets and projector that will become the shadow-dance screen — has been borrowed from local Burners.

There will be Burning Man information at the event, including survival guides, packing lists, maps, videos and descriptions of philanthropic efforts.

Wearing costumes allows people to step out of their normal routine and get in touch with their "inner extrovert," says Kerr, who'll be sporting lime green neon pants with neon candy-striped leggings, a bright net shirt, a big fuzzy hat and boots with five-inch heels. "Think of me as the Magic Candyman. It should be a blast," he says.

Just putting on a candy necklace won't get you in for ten bucks — you've got to put some effort into it.

"Plus, it's more fun if you participate," says Greg Goebelt, whose cotton candy ensemble will include a pink tutu and boots. "And if you think that you might look too weird or too strange or too risqué, I'd say that's impossible."

For the past 8 years, I have been making tea for a living. I brew chai and I brew teas that are made with hot peppers and citrus. I brew and bottle the teas at the Heartsong Chai Hut in Ashland Oregon. This strange career has led to some very strange niches.

For example, several years ago, the Heartsong Crew began serving our teas at festivals. We quickly evolved this into a tea bar serving till the wee hours of morning. Heartsong’s reputation for providing hydration to thirsty, celebrating masses, drew in a loyal following. Then one day, at a party in Mt. Shasta, a group of rowdy people gathered on an outside porch to greet the sun. People were sipping my tea and we were speaking of the spice. I said, “Sometime somewhere someone will realize how beneficial the Pepper Brews will be to the people of Black Rock City and they will take me there.” One of the rowdies, took a sip, smiled and said, “Done! You are going to Burning Man.”

Sure enough, a month later I’m packing a makeshift brewery and heading out to the desert to brew my tea. Turns out I was brought to Temple Camp to brew for the Temple Crew. I set up my little kitchen and get to work hydrating and nourishing these hardworking folks. News of the “spicy shit” spread well beyond camp. This buzz about my brews changed my life. Working for years within the sterile and highly regulated industry of food manufacturing, this was the first time I felt recognized and celebrated as an artist.

Heartsong was invited back in 2006. We returned to BRC with the Temple Crew. This time we arrived the day the playa opened and brewed for the city builders. We brewed all sorts of teas for the Temple Crew, the Man Crew, DPW and the rest of the people building the city infrastructure. When the event officially began we opened our double decker mobile tea temple and served our brews to dusty, thirsty people on the Esplenade, out at the Temple and at Entheon Village. In the end, the Heartsong Crew spent just over a month on the playa, burning our Tea Temple on the Temple burn platform on Monday night. The highlight of my year was when Super Dave came to find me asking if he could have a private stash of Habanero Honey Brew. Super Dave is one of the guys on the playa that seems to make EVERYTHING come together. And here he was, standing in my camp, telling me how the “spicy shit” was sustaining his world!

In 2007, we returned to the playa, this time camping with the superstars of Burners Without Boarders. This year, all our brews were in kegs and on tap at our tea bar. This mobile tea bar served 500 gallons of tea in five days on the Esplenade. It weathered dust storms, was towed by a fleet of bicycles, served the Critical Tits ride, took a face-plant during a windstorm, hydrated the lamp lighters, witnessed the great light saber battle and survived an attack from the Beet People. We brought a crew of fifteen folks, ten of them playa virgins… what a wild ride!

People often ask me why Heartsong participates in Burning Man. The questioning is something along the lines of “Isn’t it a commerce free event? How do you make money?” It is difficult to explain why this journey to the desert is so important to my company and myself. While it is true that Heartsong doesn’t directly generate income at the Burning Man Festival, the networking opportunities we encounter there have proven to be incredibly beneficial in the long run. People that first experience Heartsong Brews on the playa, bond with us in an unusual way. These relationships continually lead to prosperous, co-created efforts off playa. While Heartsong’s Brews are currently distributed only in Oregon and Black Rock City, our customer base extends from BC Canada to Gerlach, Nevada to Los Angeles, California, thanks to the citizens of BRC. And now is when it gets exciting, as the distribution of our brews is expanding to include Washington and Northern California!

Most important to me is actively creating a space in Black Rock City that is nourishing, hydrating and alcohol free. I also appreciate the opportunity to bring people I love together to make this incredible offering! Burning Man is a gorgeous, empowering and one of a kind exercise for our team. This year we spent nine days on the playa together, working hard, playing hard and enjoying our time together. When we returned to Ashland, we had greatly enhanced our ability to communicate, listen, problem solve, co-create and appreciate one another.

In response to those who nay-say the presence of corporations on the playa I ask you to take a closer look. In deed, many hard-core burners are successful entrepreneurs. Who else would pay to take a working vacation? Feel free to complain about the unending ads for U-Haul and Ryder truck, the “eco” car parked next to the Green Man, or the pallets of Rockstar that appear out of nowhere with no one to pick up after them. But please be careful not to complain about the artists who represent themselves and who happen to be incorporated in efforts to make a living in the crazy other world that is 358 days a year.

In 2005, the Heartsong Herbal Brewing Company was a one-person company. She was on the playa brewing tea. In 2006 there were three of us. We took turns running the company and serving the city builders. And by 2007 Heartsong was a four-person company. We had just opened our microbrewery and café. We celebrated the successful launch of this facility by brewing 500 gallons of tea and taking it out to the playa. To keep the café open, we hired two recent high school graduates to run it while the four of us went out to serve BRC.

This is the spirit of Burning Man, gathering people together to share our collective skills with strangers for the sake of creative expression and celebration. We appreciate companies like ourselves that represent themselves humbly through participation in the city. We very much appreciate the opportunity to grow, to learn and to get schooled by the playa. Looking forward to 2008!

we are from seattle and will be staying the night in medford. on monday morning, 8/27, we'll be heading to burningman. our tiny car will be crammed to the gills with stuff, so we will not have any room for any more gear. but we will have room for one human. so if you have friends you could send stuff down in a truck with but need a seat for yourself, we could be your aid :) we'd like $30 gas money for the trip. we'll be leaving from our hotel in the morning, likely around 10-11am. we are a couple in our late 20s/early 30s. we smoke cigarettes in the car and listen to loud indie rock, electronic, hiphop, etc. we are fun and interesting conversationalists.

unfortunately, we do not have any room left in our camp. all our camp invites have been taken. so once you get to BRC, you're on your own and will need to find a place to camp, etc. we will have room on our way back too if you have need for that... we are leaving again on monday and will be heading back to medford.

drop us a line if this sounds up your alley :)

On our way through beautiful Ashland our trusty steed Jagara has finally seen her day.

We have blown our transmission and are in need of a large vehicle to continue our tour. Our next show is two weeks away in eugene oregon for the faerieworlds fesival, and then on to hornings hideout with string cheeze incident. After that we return home to the kootenays bc canada for jazz fest and shambhalah. Our show this year is theatrically bringing awareness to the imbalance of non renewable resources and media manipulation.

I'm new to the Ashland area, unplugged from alot.....and am needin' to get to earthdance in a hurry! I'm settin' up a "Captain planetary parfait" compost and drum center for kids ( and big and little) at earthdance. The material for the drums is being donated (you may see me around town collecting it) and I'm needing to start setup ASAP(like should be in Laytonville Sunday).....(I have room if anyone wants to head down a little early) I would of had more time to collect funds....but last minute I decided this was the year I needed to make it out to the Black Rock City. And WOW am I glad I did!!!! One of those things that you don't know what you're missing until you go....and once you're there.....you're planning next year. Yeah....still decompressing.....

Anyway.....I'm needin some GAS (galactic activation starter-fluid) money and quick!! I make a GREAT freah/baked pie which can be delievered to your door (any combination of fruits), I can free flow for you, yard work, house-clean, baby-sit, run errands......tell you a bit about your gaiametry, I design costumes.........heck....I'll even wash your plya-fied car! Just needin to have lift off by Sunday so as to kick off this next event without any hitches!!! Anything helps!! Give me a ring at 1-323-428-5770 or respond to this post!!

Got any extra hides? gourds? lace for stretching drums? emal me, I'll come take it off your hands so that you can be a part of the heart -start drum beat project!

Lovin' you all! And happy full moon!!!!!! namaste and a' blessed you be-a!!! BEE

Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:30 or 10:30 at the Oak st. dance studio (1287 Oak Street, which is @ the very bottom of oak st. on the left, right before the bridge... it's the only building down there, so you can't miss it-please park in the lot around the right side of the building)
starting this thursday, the 20th. It will be $5, to help cover the cost to rent the space. there is a full wall mirror, and bumpin soundsystem. This will be alot of fun, but we have limited space, so call me if you would like to join. 301-6160
due to the nice floor, we unfortunately cannot have staff of anykind, nor batons or clubs.
We will also be training and choreographing for the friday night fire shows in the plaza. If you would like to be part of that, this is a mandatory class. Please call me if you have any questions. Jordan

1nce again, weather permitting, starting this friday the 21st, we will be rocking the Friday night fire shows in the downtown ashland plaza from 9:30 till midnight. This year we are going to try and be much more organized than the last few years. We will host various local DJs and musicians each week, and will be working with Circus Tribal Bellydance as well to spice it up (and to fill the time due to many of the dancers leaving ashland this year). This year, we have much more community suppport from the city, police and fire department, chamber of commerce, and daily tidings. We would love to integrate other appropriate art forms and music into the show, so please contact me if you would like to join! My name is Jordan, and my number is 301-6160
Due to fire safety, if you would like to be a part of our show, please contact me first, instead of just "showing up" with your fire toys. We want to be open to everyone participating, but we want a group that is working together, and motivated to grow together, and not just people that randomly show up halfway through the show. I hope to hear from you! Jordan

Hello fellow Burners and Southern Oregonians

I'm starting a new tribe (well, trying to breathe new life into an older tribe), and would love it for Oregon to represent, seeing as how there so many amazing artists around here, visual and otherwise...

<o> Photography and Zen <o> is a tribe dedicated to the ways that photographs impact our lives. This tribe is mostly for serious picture takers, but I've also invited snapshot takers, models, and people who don't know the front end of a camera from the back. We sometimes lose site of the non-photographers, butwithout them, we wouldn't have anyone to show our pictures to!

There are plenty of photo sites on Tribe that talk about the technical side, but photography is much more than that. Millions of pictures are taken every second. We inadvertently see hundreds of photos every day. They're a major part of modern society.

Some of the topics will be:

• The ethics of candid shots
• Becoming one with your subject
• Representing yourself as a photographer with regard to other photographers
• What photo buyers look for in an image
• The significance of photography as an art form
• Photography as an instrument to bring about social change
• Critique of images
• The UNtechnical techniques (such as knowing your instrument enough that it becomes second nature thus enabling you to lose yourself in your art -- stuff like that)
• Erotica vs. porn
• And anything else you want to talk about

So come on by and share your thoughts and/or images.
